Dive deep into acting for film with the lovely and renown Casting Director Aleta Chappelle. Ms. Aleta Chappelle is an active Casting Director with 8 current projects in production, is bringing her Internationally Acclaimed FILM ACTING CLASS to our studio for the First Time! This class is an introduction (no experience required) and a refresher (serves as a “tune-up” for experienced Actors) FILM ACTING TECHNIQUE 4 Part Course for professional actors. This will be an intimate class with overall 12 Hours of Training.
Each class begins with Warm-ups for the body and Improvisation Games to warm up the mind. In advance of the class, the Actors will need to prepare a 2-3 min monologue. It can be a new monologue or a monologue the Actor has performed before. It can be from a play or a film script. The goal is to refine and rework this monologue ON CAMERA and this will be a key component of this acting course. As a final step a NEW monologue will be assigned to each Actor by Ms. Chappelle, it will contrast the original monologue (comic, dramatic or if requested a Shakespeare monologue), and this allows each Actor participating to come away with 2 presentable MONOLOGUES of a high professional standard.
Day# 1 ⁃ AUDITION BASICS will begin with an open discussion regarding - picture and resumes, how to find auditions if you don’t have an Agent, memorization techniques, what Casting Directors and Directors are looking for and the difference between film and TV auditions and how best to prepare for both.
⁃ As a Cold Reading exercise scenes from a film scripts will be assigned and filmed, notes given, re-filmed and the tapes reviewed.
⁃ Actors will be matched with a scene partner and a COMIC scene from a film script will be assigned for performing in the next class.
Day #2 ⁃ The assigned COMIC scene is performed ON CAMERA, refined and filmed again. Blocking is added, techniques for working with a script supervisor are discussed and improvisation is used to develop the character.
⁃ The original monologue is also reviewed and refined.
⁃ A new Dramatic scene and a new scene partner is assigned.
Day # 3 ⁃ the assigned DRAMATIC scene is performed ON CAMERA, with notes given to refine the performances and be filmed again. More complicated blocking and improvisation techniques is used to further develop the character.
⁃ The actors original monologue is reviewed and refined.
⁃ A NEW contrasting monologue will be assigned to the Actor.
Day # 4 ⁃ The NEW monologue will be coached, refined and filmed for the last time.
⁃ The ORIGINAL monologue will be coached refined and filmed for the last time.
⁃ Lastly, Ms. Chappelle will lead an OPEN DISCUSSION with the Actors and also provide individualized guidance to each Actor, to help them focus on what is needed to take their career to the next level.
Ms. Aleta Chappelle began her career in the film business at Francis Ford Coppola's ZOETROPE STUDIOS, where she assisted in the casting of THE OUTSIDERS, RUMBLE FISH, PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED, and THE COTTON CLUB. She soon advanced to the level of Casting Director and some of her credits included: GOD FATHER 3, SOMEWHERE TRADE, DRUMLINE, NUTTY PROFESSOR, SISTER ACT 2, NEW YORK STORIES, BOOMERANG, BEVERLY HILLS COP 2, and RAMBLING ROSE. The CASTING SOCIETY of AMERICA nominated her for a Best Casting Award for two of the HBO films she cast: LIFE SUPPORT and INTRODUCING DOROTHY DANDRIDGE starring Halle Berry. She won a BLACK REEL and URBAN WORLD FILM FESTIVAL Best Ensemble Casting Award for the feature film MOOZ-LUM. In 2014 POCONO MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL presented her with a Casting Director Lifetime Career Achievement Award.
This class will meet on Sundays, March 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th from 5:30 - 8:30PM.
